The Masters Level Counseling or Social Work Internship Program allows you to learn from direct client care throughout your experience.  You will start by shadowing as many of our therapists as possible.  This gives you the opportunity to experience different counseling styles and techniques to help develop your own.  Then, you will begin building your own case load.  You will gain experience in completing diagnostic assessments, treatment planning, individual, group, and couples counseling.  You will learn how to manage a caseload and be part of a treatment team.  All of this will happen with the supports and guidance from your supervisor as well as the entire outpatient department.  We are all here to help our interns grow and develop into competent, professional therapists that have the skills to be successful no matter where they go.  We create a positive environment where learning can happen.  Most of our internships lead to job opportunities within Maumee Valley Guidance Center.  We take pride in developing the next generation of therapists.

The Bachelors and Associate Level Internships will have you out in the community with our Prevention Department or Case Management Department. In the Prevention Department you will assist our prevention staff in running the various programs Maumee Valley Guidance Center offers in the schools and community.  From our Signs of Suicide Program to Mental Health First Aid, you will get hands on experience in educating the community about mental health and implementing prevention strategies. Interning in our Case Management Department will provide opportunities to shadow case managers in the field and work along side of them with our clients.  You will have the opportunity to attend groups, club house activities, and work with clients on an individual basis.  You will experience how a treatment team works and learn how to document interactions with clients.
